What I am creating right now

Over the summer 2011 I created drawings of the beaches and sand dunes in Brittany, France. From these sketches I have made a series of colour lino-prints.

Now that winter has returned I am back into my ‘Winter Series’ which I began in 2010. I have made drawings of The Snow Queen which I plan to use as a starting point  to inform my next paintings in the Winter Series.

About the Winter Series

I want to convey solitude and draw parallels between the season and a state of mind; of stillness and cold comfort. From this I want my audience to create their own narrative about the paintings and the things they see within them.

I paint figures initially then abstract them to form part of the landscape. I use trees to symbolise the feminine and to provide emotional security in the cold silent world. I use a limited palette and explore the many shades of white. Every painting starts off black until it works its way into white. Exploring  gender and relationships has always fascinated me and is  an on-going theme in my work.
